Spot on Simon Kindle
In cooperation with Kommission Bildende Kunst Stadt Luzern
Simon Kindle (*1983) creates works involving set-ups for experiments and games. For example, the artist installs a climbing wall in a museum or else swings a hula hoop made of plaster around his hips. The mischievous smile on his lips not only suggests that he could keep the hoop swinging for hours, it also exposes the humour inherent in many of his works. Simon Kindle’s works explore the realm of the possible. He invites his audience to adopt his role, to become active themselves and have certain experiences. What does it mean, as a jury member, to select artists, to give the thumbs-up or down, or to point your index finger? What does it feel like to be one of the selected artists? To be exhibited? Through his works, Simon Kindle addresses themes related to the art business, but also to the treatment of cultural assets and the public domain. In doing so he uses traditional materials and techniques like stucco and casting and also industrially-manufactured steel constructions.
The Kommission Bildende Kunst Stadt Luzern has honoured Simon Kindle with volume 20 of the publication series spot on.
