Lucerne Art Society

The legal basis of Kunstmuseum Luzern is Lucerne Art Society (Kunstgesellschaft Luzern, KGL). Founded in 1819 with a view to establishing a forum for artists and devotees of art, and to creating spaces for exhibitions in the mid-term, Lucerne Art Society opened a museum of its own in the Kunst- und Kongresshaus built by Armin Meili in 1933. Today, Lucerne Art Society has about 2,200 members.

Kunstmuseum Luzern collects, preserves and exhibits art as well as it educates its visitors with regard to art and the exhibitions. The more members Lucerne Art Society has, the better Kunstmuseum Luzern can perform these demanding duties. It is only thanks to the Art Society with its membership of over 2,500 that the many exhibitions, the varied accompanying programme, the expansion of the collection and the funded publications are even possible.

Whether in discussions, in ideas or projects, the Kunstmuseum always strives for great openness. Kunstmuseum Luzern is a place of engagement with important contemporary themes. The members of Kunstgesellschaft Luzern are the immediate environment of the Kunstmuseum and make a considerable contribution to these discussions.

Members of Lucerne Art Society have free entrance to Kunstmuseum Luzern as well as 16 other art institutions across Switzerland. They receive discounts on publications and editions by Kunstmuseum Luzern. Family membership automatically includes membership of the Children’s Club of Kunstmuseum Luzern. Company members receive four membership cards. The membership refers to one calender year. New memberships which are applied for after 01 October of a calendar year will only be charged from 01 January of the following year.
