In 2015 the region of Central Switzerland celebrates 200 years of hospitality. Kunstmuseum Luzern is taking up this incentive and presents the School for Tourists by British artist Emma Smith (b. 1981). School for Tourists examines both forms and social conditions of tourism. What does it mean to belong to a place, to be a guest or a native? In several workshops, walks and talks the artist will be working on the spot to develop a better relationship between tourists and the local population.

Under Emma Smith’s guidance participants will use movement, discourse and action to develop new perspectives for sensitive relations between guest and host, foreigners and locals. The workshops also focus on strolling as a method to explore space: by foot, tourists and the local population share points of departure and arrival, as well as paths and space. School for Tourists thus contributes to a lasting exchange between guests and hosts and offers to explore Kunstmuseum Luzern in new ways.
