Catherine Gfeller
Pulsations
Agitated, frantic, pulsating: equipped with camera and microphone, the artist Catherine Gfeller slides through the city and across the countryside, weaves in and out of the flow of people and the traffic, is reflected in the windows of buses and shops, penetrates walls to examine the hidden spaces in which people live, and shine a light on their possessions.
This first retrospective exhibition of the photo and video artist, born in Neuchâtel in 1966 and now based in Montpellier and Paris, is presenting in three places – in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Lucerne and Sète – and using conceptions that are adapted to the individual spatial situations, three different possibilities for plunging into this artistic cosmos. The work is given an additional resonating space by the publication of the catalogue, which absorbs Gfeller’s visual urgency into its design.
