Kyra Tabea Balderer
Szenario
Manor Kunstpreis Zentralschweiz Luzern
Kyra Tabea Balderer plays with our sense of perception. As soon as we hear that her works are photographs, we almost feel like touching them because of the contradiction between this information and what we see. Her photographic works are extremely painterly and, for a two-dimensional medium, have surprising features such as a haptic quality and depth. The artist achieves this by genuinely photographic means: she uses light and shade deliberately and choses focus and depth of field with great precision when photographing her constructions with her large format camera.
Kyra Tabea Balderer finds inspiration both in the city and in illustrated volumes of sculptural works, but her photographs are exclusively of self-made objects: bricolage sculptures made of simple materials which she then paints colourfully. The vexation is heightened by the fact that the size of her constructs remains unclear. Kyra Tabea Balderer’s works cleverly combine sculpture, painting and photography, in the individual image as well as in the installation presentation.
