In 2021, the Lucerne artist Mahtola Wittmer (*1993, Lucerne) will present her works in our Solo exhibition, for which she has developed objects and performative interventions. These will be linked up in the exhibition space so as to investigate the question of interpersonal relations.

Seated around a table, people may argue, eat, debate, fall in love and cry. Politics is often a topic at the regulars’ table in a pub. Under a bistro table, feet may touch covertly, while unpleasant truths can also be swept elegantly under a table. As an item of social furniture which gathers several people together, this particular object is the point of departure for Mahtola Wittmer’s new works.

In the framework of the Solo exhibition, Mahtola will begin the performance series entitled Ich+, which engages with the artist’s personal sphere. The performances will take place at different places and in different contexts, and last between one minute and several hours. Ich+ examines various aspects of interpersonal relations: Where do tensions arise? When do they become visible and when are they played down? The artist is particularly interested in the relationship between autonomy and obligation. The theme of the whole performance series is how to deal with emotional ambivalences.
