Raymond Pettibon

Spurred on by his genuine need constantly to capture the world, for over thirty years Raymond Pettibon has been creating works notable for their high level of topicality. Pettibon takes the diversity of voices in an individualistic society and the impossibility of making categorical statements about subjective emotional reception and tirelessly turns them into drawings. Without wagging a moral finger he casts a sceptical light on western society. His manic working method has produced an almost infinite cosmos of aphoristic works that trenchantly investigates various discourses in society and their complexity. Yet again, the exhibition at Kunstmuseum Luzern is providing the first opportunity in fifteen years to see works by Raymond Pettibon in a Swiss museum. The presentation draws attention to Pettibon’s artistic development, from concrete arenas to superior themes.
