Roland Roos
Manor Kunstpreis Zentralschweiz
The Manor Kunstpreis is considered one of the most significant private artistic awards in Switzerland. It includes Money for the production of new art works, as well as a museum exhibition with a catalogue.
Roland Roos (b. 1974) convinced the jury of the Manor Kunstpreis with his catchy concepts, in which he combines serious messages with a great deal of intelligence and humour. The underlying principle of his artistic work is based on processes: he realises his ideas over a lengthy period of time, engages in collaborations, acquires the craftsmanlike skills required for a project, and thus creates art. The result of Roland Roos’s project is shaped by modest gestures, but in terms of content his works are all the more complex.
In Kunstmuseum Luzern Roland Roos is making an exhibition concept of a particular kind: a workshop is being set up in the spaces of the museum. The artist will be present on the spot, and will create a unique artistic experience. Inspired by the idea of a story in pictures consisting of individual concise pictures, in his factory Roland Roos will produce little books of the kind available in children’s bookshops. These little books convey the artist’s work in a special, playful way. In simple pictures, six different books tell the story of his six most important projects and thus combine to form a retrospective in the format of a children’s book.
During his three-month exhibition in Kunstmuseum Luzern, Roland Roos, with the help of numerous friends, is producing children’s books that will leave the museum to go straight into Manor’s range. From 14 June on the books will be available at all major branches of Manor. In the Kunstmuseum Luzern an edition of all 6 books will be sold.
The books will be sold at Manor in the following cities:
Baden, Basel Rebgasse und St. Jakob, Biel, Chur, Emmen, Frauenfeld, Fribourg, Hinwil, Kreuzlingen, Langenthal, Luzern, Pfäffikon, Rickenbach, Sargans, Schattdorf, Schönbühl, Schwyz, Solothurn, Spreitenbach, Winterthur, Zürich Bahnhofstrasse und Letzipark
curated by Lena Friedli
The exhibition is supported by Manor, Casimir Eigensatz Stiftung and Stadt Zürich.
There is a trailer, which Roland Roos produced to give you an impression of the process that proceeded the exhibtion:
