Solo Davina Andrea Deplazes
The zentral! jury has awarded the Prize of the Kunstgesellschaft Luzern to Davina Andrea Deplazes (*1999). The prize is linked with the exhibition Solo, which takes place during the following year’s annual zentral! survey. Davina Andrea Deplazes’ sculptures are multilayered and made up of different materials. Under the heading Denter Ignivs she has created a group of works out of nest-shaped sculptures. Denter Ignivs is Romansh for “between nests”. Placed at various spots in the exhibition room, the nest stands for a place of safety and intimacy. Yet when standing alone on the branch of a birch tree or hanging in a corner of the room, it also seems delicate and fragile. The nest is attached to the branch by a piece of glass. Is it a worm creeping into the nest or is it resin oozing from the birch? The works of Davina Andrea Deplazes focus singly or as a constellation on existential questions about the interaction between man and dwelling, homeland and alienation. The artist’s intention is not to tell a complete story, but to leave scope for the audience’s own thoughts and ideas.
