Kunstmuseum Luzern and Lucerne Festival are interested in the correlations between visual art and music, visual expression and sound. Therefore Lucerne Festival and Kunstmuseum Luzern are promoting the interface between the two artistic areas with a competition. With great curiosity, both institutions will be pursuing outstanding new unconventional projects that fall within the fields of both visual art and music.

For this years winner’s project, The Place of Whispers, David Bithell (b. 1978, USA) is collecting whispers from the city of Lucerne. With this project he is referring to the theme ‘Psyche’ of the Lucerne Festival. At various spots in the public space the artist is recording people’s dreams, wishes and longings with interactive sound sculptures. They form the basis for a composition of Bithell’s, which in turn will be performed in a series of performances.
